Krefelder Tafel e.V. delighted about hackathon prize money

130 volunteers take care of about 4,000 people in need. Every day, over 100 warm meals are provided in cosy rooms. Krefelder Tafel e.V. is a strong initiative in the neighbourhood, which ORT is delighted to support.

Therefore, ORT presented a donation to the Tafel food bank just before Christmas. Irmgard Hausmanns, deputy chairperson of the non-profit association, was delighted by the commitment to provide bofrost* frozen food products – 3,000 euros worth of them, ready to consume.

The campaign has a story. It begins in June 2017 with an excellent idea: At the bofrost* hackathon, a nation-wide design thinking contest held by the frozen food specialist, an ORT team makes second place with a convincing concept.

Irmgard Hausmanns is delighted about ORT’s hackathon prize, presented by Axel Wernicke and Jan Piatkowski. On the right: Gerhard Lierhaus, Managing Director of the bofrost* branch in Willich, Germany.

The prize money, amounting to 2,000 euros, is kept in safe keeping by ORT Medienverbund, and later handed over to Tafel in the form of bofrost* frozen food products. Gerhard Lierhaus, Managing Director of the bofrost* branch in Willich, was present during the handover of the donation and committed to an unbureaucratic process.

Krefelder Tafel e.V. is regularly supported with food from the ORT’s own cafeteria and bofrost* in Willich. Each day about three tons of food are collected by Krefeld-based companies and provided to five distribution points. At 21 years, the Krefeld Tafel is one of the over 900 non-profit Tafel associations in Germany that has been active the longest – and these food banks perform an important social task.
